Polruan
Polruan is situated opposite Fowey and is linked
by a passenger ferry which provides a regular, year
round service. A car ferry to Fowey runs from nearby
Bodinnick - famous for its associations with Daphne
du Maurier.
The Fowey Estuary is one of the most attractive areas
of the Cornish Coast and is adjacent to miles of open
countryside, much of which is owned by the National
Trust.

Polruan itself is a delightful, unspoilt fishingvillage
with a jumble of little streets and walkways leading
down to the harbour with its two excellent pubs, local
shops and small beach.
The area is ideal for a peaceful self-catering
holiday whether you delight in messing around in boats,
walking the wonderful cliff walks (the start of the
Hall Walk is 5 minutes from Driftwood), dining in one
of the many excellent local restaurants in Fowey just
across the water or visiting the many attractions this
part of Cornwall has to offer including the Eden
Project, wonderful gardens including Heligan
and a wealth of childrens attractions. Oh - and of course
- enjoying what Cornwall is probably best known for
- its many wonderful beaches.
Polruan's location - half way down the Cornish peninsula
- makes this spot an ideal base to visit the rest of
the county although, once here, you may find you don't
want to travel too far
.

The local coastline and countryside is wonderfully
unspoilt and beautiful with dramatic cliffs and sheltered
beaches and coves. Walkers are in their element with
a breathtaking stretch of the Heritage coast, cared
for by the National Trust, literally on the doorstep,
together with the start of the famous Hall Walk.
For those able to tear themselves away from the tranquility
of Polruan, cosmopolitan Fowey nestles just across the
estuary with its excellent selection of shops, pubs
and restaurants and two beaches.
Directions
- Take the M5 to Exeter, then the A38 to Plymouth.
After passing Plymouth, follow the A38 into Cornwall
towards Liskeard, then stay on the A38 as far as Dobwalls.
- At Dobwalls take the A390 towards St Austell.
- Go through East Taphouse. After the petrol station
turn left onto the B3359 to Polruan.
- After about 5 miles, turn right at the Y-junction
towards Polruan.
- After a further 4 miles, at a junction with a phone
box, take a left turn to Polruan.
- On entering Polruan, follow the road towards the
harbour. About half way done the hill, there is a
meeting room and church on the left-hand side. The
entrance to Driftwood will be found virtually opposite
on the right, just after a row of small white painted
cottages.
- There is ample parking for two cars, one behind
the other. Although the turn is quite tight.
